Nasty Disease(2)
When I reached the office this morning, I took a quick peep at today’s news for updates of the HMFD case reported yesterday. The name of the kindy has been disclosed. Click here for the news coverage.
The parents of the two children diagnosed with symptoms of HMFD must have had sleepless nights. As a mother, I can totally relate to that. When I sent Ian to his playschool this morning, I casually mentioned to Anne, the Principal, about the case. She said they are aware of the situation. Medical problem such as this does not necessarily originate from schools, children could contract the disease from any crowded places such as the supermarkets.
Nasty Disease
It’s 1am. Ian had woken up, and was unable to get back to sleep by himself. So, had to ‘bring’ him til he dozed off which he did after some 15 minutes.
Unable to get back to sleep myself, I decided to surf the internet for more details about this nasty disease called HMFD. Daniel and I talked about it briefly after dinner – apparently there were news that kindy children have been diagnosed having the symptoms. In yesterday’s local news, it was reported that one parent called Daily Express to inform that her 6-year old son was diagnosed by a private doctor with symptoms of HFMD. According to her, the doctor even mentioned that he has handled about 50 cases of children suffering symptoms of HFMD. However, the State Acting Director of Health stated otherwise, that there is no outbreak of this disease in the state.
Obviously, this matter is serious. Why did the private doctor claim otherwise? Did the parent misinterpreted what the doctor has told her? Or…
Whatever it is, this piece of news is stressful for me as children under five are most prone to this viral infection. I really need to be more cautious, making sure that Ian is kept clean or keeps himself clean.
