kids say the “darndest” things
O u r l i t t l e l i n g u is t !
I know kids sometimes make their cute, silly sentences and words. Sometimes, Ian makes up sentences and words because he’s having fun with it. I do find them fun and funny too. So, we often laugh. The more I (laugh) find them funny, the more he tries to make up more funny words.
Anyway, what I would like to scribble here is what Ian had said last week which I find real cute. Here’s the story. Daniel told him that his bicycle tyres needed ‘air’ and that they will have to bring it to the gas station after dinner. Well, being a kid, he got all curious and rather “impatient”. As I mentioned in my previous posts, NOW seems to be his favorite word of late.
What happened was – he wanted to go to the gas station that instant. The NOW thing. Didn’t make a move to avoid being caught in a heavy traffic jam but no use telling Ian this. I tried, any…way, to make him understand. I said, “Ian, it’s heavy, heavy traffic jam out there. We’ll go after dinner”. What I got back was a fat NO and lots of whining. Feeling a little bit irritated with all the pleas etc., I uttered this exact sentence, “Ian, there’s no point going out right now. It’s super jam out there”. Guess what what his reply was. He replied, “but I want the point to go there now”. It was so funny that I just couldn’t refrain myself from laughing. Ian started laughing too when he saw me laughing so hard!
